7 tips to help you start your baby's food diversification

Usually, a baby is ready to explore the world of food between 4 and 6 months, when their natural curiosity as a child is at its peak. But this important phase can sometimes cause some concerns for parents, and that's completely normal!

As you probably know, it's not always easy to get your baby to accept new foods.

So, I've gathered below several tips that will hopefully make your life easier

  • Take your time, especially the first time.
  • Learning to eat is a new skill. Some babies are more inclined to accept new textures and foods than others. Encourage your baby to keep trying and stay positive.
  • Let your baby go at their own pace. They will let you know when they're full or hungry. If your baby shows signs of tiredness (blinking eyes, turning their head away), stop. Wait for their mouth to open before giving them food. Don't force your baby to eat. If they're not interested, wait for the next time.
  • Keep offering different foods, even if your baby doesn't like them. Your baby may need to try new flavors, textures, and foods at least 15 times or more. There will be days when your baby eats more, other days when they eat less, and days when they reject all food. This is normal.
  • Allow your baby to touch and hold the food. Once they show interest, let them eat by themselves with their fingers or a spoon.
  • Avoid distractions during meals and don't put your baby in front of the TV, phone, or tablet.
  • Show them what you eat. Babies imitate their parents and other children. Try to have as many meals together as a family and sit together.
